09/10/2020 -These prints are now all sold.
I currently have a selection of Toshi Yoshida prints for sale.
Although I am a collector and generally do not sell his woodblock prints (unless I have duplicates) I’ve recently purchased an expensive copy of one of his limited edition African prints so need to free up some funds to pay for that. There are mostly pencil signed woodblock prints for sale but also a few posthumous copies as well. If you’re interested in any of the prints please let me know by using the Contact Us page. I can supply large format scans of the front of verso of the prints if asked.
I’ve tried to set what I feel are fair prices for the prints but if you’d like to make an offer please feel free to do so. Your also welcome to inquire about prints I’ve not listed for sale, there are some I’d consider parting with.
I’ve put a couple of the prints on eBay primarily as a way to ‘advertise’ the prints on my website including a pencil signed copy of “Sacred Garden” which is cheaper than a posthumous copy offered at $270 (which has 24 watchers!).
As this is a hobby site it’s not set up to accept payments so I would bill you using the PayPal billing system. That way it’s secure and you don’t need to give me your payment (credit/debit card) details. Shipping within Australia would be $28 and international would be $42.00. International buyers are responsible for any customs fees, taxes or other charges that may be due in their country. You can check out my eBay feedback here – http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/mikeaqui.
You can find the details on the Toshi Yoshida prints for sale at https://www.japaneseartsgallery.com/gallery/woodblock-prints/toshi-yoshida/ (marked FOR SALE).
If you’re looking for or researching prices for posthumous Toshi Yoshida prints and can’t find the one you want on this site then check out this post here which will give you details on where to find a good selection for sale.
I am interested in the Toshi Yoshida print entitled “Temple Bell” if it has not been sold, I would like to purchase it.
Thank you.
Hi Robert,
Yes, the Yoshida ‘Temple Bell’ print is available. I’ll email you scans of the print and details how to make payment for it.
Thanks, Mike.
do you have THE FRIENDLY GARDEN’ TRIPTYCH for sale? If so, I would be interested in it.
Thank you.
Hi Cathleen.
Sorry but I only have one copy of the set and it’s not for sale.
Good places to search include https://www.japaneseartsgallery.com/news/ using the “Search 90+ Woodblock Sites” box on the right, eBay, http://www.liveauctioneers.com/ and http://www.invaluable.com/.
Try to buy a copy with the original teak frames as they look better in those – my set is in replacement frames and I don’t think they look as good. The original mat/back boards are not archival quality so they can damage the prints a bit – usually in the margins.
When looking around take note of Bamboo Tree print (the middle print of the triptych) in particular. It’s very common for the colour of the bamboo trees in the Bamboo Tree print to be paler than the bamboo trees in the Pine Tree (first) print. You can occasionally find one where the colour of the bamboo trees in the two prints is closer.
Regards,
Mike.
Let me know the price of the wisteria print
Hi Janet,
Thanks for your enquiry. Sorry, but the Wistaria at Ushijima woodblock print is not one I’m selling.
Regards, Mike.
Is “Half Moon Bridge” for sale? If so, the price?
My husband particularly admires the prints of cranes. Do you have any for sale?
Many thanks,
Betsy Hollins
Hi Betsy,
I’ve sent you an email about the “Half Moon Bridge” print.
Woodblock prints with cranes are popular but I don’t have any at present.
Regards,
Mike.
Currently have a pair of pencil signed toshi yoshito available including half moon bridge.
I know of two works by Binnie for sale which depict cranes:
I am interested in: Shinjuku by Toshi Yoshida. What is the price please?
I have sent you an email regarding this print.
I bought a Heirinji Temple Bell print at the Hanga Gallery in Kyoto about 15 years ago. It has two what I assume are seals inserted in the back on the right side.
After having looked at different comments I am understanding that this print is of the earlier serie.
Grateful for any input you may have. Am selling my house and moving to a smaller place and have no space for all the art I have accumulated during the years.
What would the price be for this print?
Kerstin Alm
Hi Kerstin,
If it has two ‘seals’ on the back then it may be a posthumous copy if the seals are actually two blocks of kanji characters. Generally lifetime pencil signed Yoshida woodblock prints having nothing on the back of the print. I’m not an appraiser/valuer so don’t give valuations, however I’ve seen that print sell in the range $150~ to $275~ at auction.
Regards, Mike.

I’ve replied to this query over on the https://www.japaneseartsgallery.com/gallery/woodblock-prints/toshi-yoshida/ page where you also enquired about Toshi Yoshida prints.

Sir: I would like to know the price of the Tenryu River Print, and also the Iidabashi print, if theyare stilll available. Thanks.
Hi,
Sorry but the print Tenryu River is not for sale and I do not have a copy of other print you asked about – Iidabashi.

Hi Mike, I was just wondering if there’d been any update on these?
Thanks again,
Tristan
Hi Tristan,
Any Toshi Yoshida print not marked ‘sold’ is potentially available for sale.
There are a few prints I’ve marked ‘not for sale’ but you can always enquire if your interested in any. I’m selling down my collection with the intention of only keeping my favourites rather than trying to own everything he produced.
Regards,
Mike.
Hi Mike,
I’m looking for the book, love, art and peace by Eugene Skibbe. Do you happen to know where to find it? Will there be a reprint?
Thanks
Martijn
Hi Martijn,
I couldn’t find this book available using google. It usually does pop-up on Amazon and eBay from time to time so you’ll need to keep an eye on them.
Regards,
Mike.
Thanks Mike, I will.
Cheers,
Martijn
I am seeking print titled plum tree in the friendly garden by Toshi Yoshida to complete my collection of series.
Prefer it have teak frame with light mat, match existing …DO YOU HAVE ONE FOR SALE & IF SO PLEASE ADVISE ON PRICE , SHIPPING / HANDLING COST , ETC
Residence is in Oakville ON , Canada L6L 6T9
Sorry, I don’t have a spare copy of that print. There is a full set for sale at auction, see https://new.liveauctioneers.com/item/46789403_toshi-yoshida-wood-block-prints-c1980-three for details. For a single print from the triptych your best bet is probably keep an eye on eBay.
Seeking teak frames same as used in framing prints “the friendly garden” .
Can you provide a source that you used
Hi Ron,
Sorry, I don’t have a source for the teak frames. You’ll need to keep an eye on ebay and the other auction sites to see if any become available.
Regards,
Mike.
I purchased a copy of Pine Tree of the Friendly Garden for $15 NZ. It is in its original frame with the artists signature on the bottom right hand corner and Japanese writing denoting the name of the picture and a red stamp in the left hand corner. Is this a valuable painting ?
Hi Gill,
I couldn’t say the woodblock triptych you bought is valuable but it’s worth a lot more than the $15 you paid.
I’m not a valuer or appraiser so can’t give you a valuation but can say that I’ve seen that set sell anywhere from around $300 to $900USD. I have a copy and if selling would feel $600~ to be a fair price if I tried to sell it.
Being in NZ your problem (like mine here in Australia) would be shipping costs if you look to sell it as most likely an overseas buyer would be your market. You may need to factor in (ie. possibly lower) your selling price if the shipping price is very high.
Regards,
Mike.
We have a signed Embryo print. We had it framed with acid-free matting and anti-glare UV protection glass. We left all pertinent information exposed to view. We are interested in selling, but have no idea what value it holds or price to ask. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi Mark and Kim,
I’m not a valuer/appraiser so can’t give you a valuation. For that you’d need to contact someone qualified.
Galleries http://www.fandrfinearts.com, http://www.castlefinearts.com/ and http://floatingworld.com do offer free appraisals and also buy/sell Toshi Yoshida prints so I’d recommend you contact them.
FloatingWorld do have a number of Toshi Yoshida’s abstract prints for sdale so have a look at those as similar prints tend to sell for similar proices.
Good luck,
Mike.
I have Birds of Seasons. All 4. Framed. Any idea of value for the collection?
Hi Sally,
I’m not a valuer/appraiser so can’t give you a valuation. For that you’d need to contact someone qualified.
Galleries http://www.fandrfinearts.com, http://www.castlefinearts.com/ and http://floatingworld.com do offer free appraisals and also buy/sell Toshi Yoshida prints so I’d recommend you contact them.
Personally, I’ve previously bought a very good set for $400 but more typically I’ve seen sellers ask anywhere from $600 to $1600 for a set.
Regards,
Mike.
Please advise if item 26 ; Toshi Yoshida the plum tree in friendly garden is for sale and for what price & terms
Residence ….. Oakville On Canada L6L6T9
Hi Ron,
Sorry that print is not available for sale. Try eBay, Invaluable and the LiveAuctioneers websites, I did see a copy on one of those sites recently.
Regards,
Mike.
I have a signed original Tōshi Yoshida watercolor in its original frame. How do I sell this piece? I am willing to sell if possible.
Hi Kathy,
Galleries http://www.fandrfinearts.com, http://www.castlefinearts.com/ and http://floatingworld.com do offer free appraisals and also buy/sell Toshi Yoshida prints so I’d recommend you contact them. http://www.ukiyoe-gallery.com/ also buy/sell a lot of Yoshida prints and do have handle paintings as well – use their sitemap http://www.ukiyoe-gallery.com/sitemap.htm to find things. I’m not sure about the other sites selling paintings you’ll need to take a look at the sites and/or contact them.
Regards,
Mike.
Hi – I don’t know if this site is still active because all of the comments are from years ago but if it is…I went to your “block prints for sale” but when I clicked on “summer – by toshi yoshida” – it doesn’t say sold under it but it does say “not for sale” once i scroll down. So, if knowledge of one comes your way – please let me know. Thank you for your time and be well.
warmest regards,
Allison
Hi Allison,
The site is a hobby and lists prints I own. I have been reducing my print collection by selling quite a few but some are being kept as part of my core collection. ‘Summer’ does pop up on auction sites regularily and if I see one in good condition I’ll endeavour to let you know.
Regards, Mike.
I am interested in purchasing a print of Morinji in Spring. Do you have one available? I recently purchase a print of Bamboo Garden and my wife and I both love his work. thanks
Hi Victor,
I’ll send you an email.
Regards, Mike.
Do you have another Morinji in Spring? Is it with the kanji on the front or without—I’ve seen two versions—and what’s the difference? Thank you
Hi Laura,
I’m sold out of the Morinji in Spring woodblock print. I can’t recall seeing a copy without the read kanji seal on the front of the print.
Regards,
Mike.
I have a print of Sangetsu-an Hakone Museum by Yoshi Yoshida. How can I tell if this is print or real or ? The title of the work as well as the artist name are in pencil. Can you tell me how much it could be worth? It is part of my brother’s estate.
Hi Jeanette,
To see if it’s real or not check the back, if you see the ink from the printing then it’s most likely a woodblock print. I cant give you a valuation but I have seen that print sell at auction from $150-$250/$300. I paid around $200 for my pencil signed copy which is in very good condition.
Regards, Mike.
Cherry Bloosms signed for sale?
Hi,
Thanks for your enquiry.
That print is not currently for sale, sorry.
Regards, Mike.
I have a framed print of “Baobaba & Rhino by Toshi Yoshita 1979 #7 I would like the value if possible
Hi Greg,
I can’t give a valuation as I’m not an appraiser/valuer but I did see one sell in Japan this month for around $900. At a web gallery I’d expect it to be a lot more than that. Galleries like Floating World and Castle Fine Arts offer appraisals and are both familiar with works by Toshi Yoshida.
Regards,
Mike.
What would the value of a pencil signed woodblock print by Toshi Yoshida titled “Discovery” be?
Sorry, I don’t have any info on that print. Galleries like Floating World and Castle Fine Arts offer appraisals and are both familiar with works by Toshi Yoshida.
I have a framed print called Tenryuji Garden. Tring to find out the value as a friend wants to buy it.
Hi Mary Ann,
I’m not an appraiser and don’t provide valuations so you’ll need to do your own research possibly including contacting an appraiser or gallery familiar with woodblock prints.
For posthumous editions, I do note however, that at what I’d describe as a retail price from a reputable site it’s priced at $265 USD (including shipping and insurance from Japan). On eBay I’ve seen them at higher prices, sometimes way higher and I’m not sure why anyone would buy at that pricing.
For pencil signed editions, on eBay at present there a number of Toshi Yoshida’s white line prints including Tenryuji Garden with buy it now prices over $600USD. Personally I think that’s very high but I don’t know what their business model is. Maybe some are bricks and mortar galleries/shops with higher overheads. Who knows if any are actually selling at those sort of prices.
I have noticed in the last year that people in general have been asking way more for Toshi Yoshida prints than used to be the case. Previously I could buy a good selection of his prints in the $200-300 range but now the asking prices are often more like $400-600.
If you were asking me what I’d sell a good pencil signed copy for, I’d probably say around $300. I don’t know if that’s over or under valuing the print but that’s where I’d be comfortable – depending on what I paid to purchase the print initially.
I hope this helps a bit.
Regards,
Michael.
Hi Michael!
Are the posthumous editions of Toshi Yoshida’s works worth getting or should i only look to buy pencil signed editions?
Also, I have noticed in one of your earlier comments that you suggested finding the “friendly garden triptych” with the original teak frames. Are you referring to the Franklin Mint prints that come with the sticker title on the back? You also mentioned that “The original mat/back boards are not archival quality so they can damage the prints a bit – usually in the margins.”. I’m not too sure what this means – should i find the prints in their original frames or look to change them?
I’m new to collecting hence my lack of knowledge.
Thanks,
Reinald
Hi Reinald,
To buy pencil signed or posthumous Toshi Yoshida is purely a personal decision. I mostly buy pencil signed but do buy posthumous editions if the quality and price is right.
I mentioned quality there because are posthumous copies around with in my opinion quite noticeable printing issues. The image below shows one such example – I’ve put circles around some of the areas of concern. When considering buying a print it’s useful to compare it to other examples on the internet to get a better idea of its relative condition.
If you compare that with the print at https://www.japaneseartsgallery.com/gallery/woodblock-prints/toshi-yoshida/nggallery/image/toshi-yoshida-sangetsu-an-hakone-muesum/ you’ll see why I highlighted those areas of the posthumous print.
I guess from a collectors point of view the Franklin Mint Friendly Garden in the original teak frames and original framing materials are the more desirable option. The sticker you mention on the back, from memory, I think says FMGA (or similar).
I’ve had them both, in teak frames and unframed. My current copy was actually two purchases, a poor quality set of framed prints and a good quality set of unframed prints. I removed the poor quality prints from the frames and had the much better quality prints put into the frames using new archival quality backing and mats. So, I kept the teak frame and acrylic glass but replaced everything else.
Of the 4 or so sets of the prints I’ve had all have had condition issues (not too major) due to the backing boards and mats. Most of the prints appear to have been attached to the boards with tape and that caused staining at the top margin of the prints.
If I had purchased a good quality set of these prints in a good frame I’d probably leave them as is and make no changes.
Regards,
Michael.
